Exploring the Weather

Watch the YouTube video of the story Elmer's weather where Elmer explores all the different weathers.

I went outside and I could see...

Take a trip in to the garden or look out the window, what shapes can you see in the clouds?

Can you draw the clouds/shapes? You can use the work sheets provided (if you have access to a printer), alternatively copy the worksheet on to paper you have at home. Or just have fun drawing the different shapes/clouds on to plain paper!

Shaving Foam Symmetry Pictures

Let’s have some fun and see what shaped clouds we can make with some shaving foam!

What you will need –

  • Coloured paper/card
  • Shaving foam

Instructions –

  • Fold a piece of paper/card in half
  • squirt the shaving foam on one side of the card
  • fold the other side of paper over the shaving foam
  • open the paper/card.

What shape have you made? Use your imagination and what can you see? Did you make a sheep, or a dog or  car shape?

If you don’t want to make symmetrical shapes instead you can squirt some shaving foam on to a surface that can be cleaned easily and draw the clouds with your fingers in the shaving foam.

Draw the Weather

What is the weather today? Can you draw the weather using as many colours & resources as you can! (e.g. tissue paper, colour pens, glitter, paint, pom poms whatever you can find at home). This can be done on plain paper or use the worksheets as a guide.

Weather tracing

Can you use your pencil control skills to  trace the clouds & weather on the worksheets below. Why not draw your own clouds to trace?

ACTIVITY - DRESS FOR THE WEATHER

1.Lay a variety of clothes out in front of you. Select a weather card and then encourage your child to dress up in the clothes appropriate for that weather. Make it fun by taking selfies, beat the timer, race your family members! This is a great activity to also help with all those dressing and undressing skills and to practise fastenings!

2. Download the worksheet. Select the weather cards and dress the character by cutting and sticking the items of clothing. You can help with the cutting skills if necessary.
