Addington School

Welcome to the PE Department

The students of Addington have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities within their sequential curriculum such as: Rebound Therapy, Fitness, Dance, Athletics, Ball skills and Swimming. In addition to this, lunchtime and after school clubs are well established. These activities not only provide a physical outlet, but also improve social communication and emotional regulation. The experience for students is enhanced through professional coaching using our links with local clubs and schools such as: Reading Football Club, Sand Martins Golf Club, London Irish Rugby Club, Kingfisher Table Tennis Club, Chance to Shine Cricket, Berkshire Banshees Wheelchair Rugby and Abbey Girls School.

All students at Addington are involved in the Sports Days each year. They participate in a series of track races, sensory walks and tug of war.

Students at Addington are given a range of opportunities throughout the school year which includes inter school and inter-house sporting competitions. Examples of these are the Woodley Schools Sports Week Dance Festival, the Panathlon and Berkshire School Games.

Each year in March students participate in a 'Healthy Lifestyles Week'. Students enjoy daily fitness sessions, aerobics, dance and healthy eating workshops.

Key stage 4 & 5 students are given the opportunity to access the local sporting and leisure facilities. This promotes independence and healthy lifestyle choices in the community.

Here at Addington we promote leadership opportunities within our school where students are selected as House Captains and Young Sports Leaders. They learn to lead activities and apply these skills to inter-house competitions and supporting in PE lessons.
