Tulip Class news

May 22

This half term Tulip class have been enjoying learning all about construction and buildings. We have explored different structures and building types through a variety of materials following our topic books which have included ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’.

We all really enjoyed our trip to Taplow this half-term despite the wet weather! Our highlights were the swings, climbing equipment in the soft-play area and the role play area. We all enjoyed going on the coach and did really well transitioning to and from the site. We are looking forward to another trip next half-term!

As always, we have enjoyed music and yoga with Claire and have been taking advantage of the better weather to use the sensory garden in these sessions.

Next half-term our topic will be ‘Holidays, Journeys, Seaside and Transition’ and part of this will include preparing for next year as well as exploring different types of holidays.

The Tulip class team hope you all have a lovely half-term holiday and we look forward to seeing you again on Monday the 6th of June.

April 22

This half term, Tulip class have been very busy learning all about our topic 'Growing Plants and Animals'. We have thoroughly enjoyed activities based on the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. Some activities the pupils have engaged well in, include; shared writing (painting the story using media), food play and retelling the story using sensory experiences and props and bucket themed caterpillar or butterfly activities.

This half term, we also went on our first school trip to Thames Valley Adventure Playground. The pupils had a fantastic time exploring this facility. Lots of the children particularly liked exploring the outdoor spaces, such as the electric train and the sand pit. The zip wire swing was another favourite for quite a few of the pupils.

February 21

This term’s topic has been “Mega-Beasts” and Tulip class have been enjoying exploring monsters and large animals based on some key books: “Where the Wild Things are”, “Not Now Bernard” and “The Snail and the Whale”. We have worked really hard on our communication in focused PECS sessions and intensive interaction time as well as developing our verbal communication during circle time. We have also learned about Chinese New Year and enjoyed doing some dragon dancing during “wake-up shake-up”.  We tasted lots of noodles and rice and tried out chopsticks as part of our fine motor skills development.

We have continued to practise safe and calm transitions to other areas of the school and we have particularly enjoyed walking across the field up to the sensory garden for parachute games and bubbles! As always, we have enjoyed music and yoga with Claire, especially our dinosaur poses and trying different smelling doughs in dough disco.

We have also been working hard on our independence when dressing and undressing for swimming and we are all exploring further into the swimming pool and enjoying soaking our teachers with squirting dinosaur toys! Next half-term our topic will be “Growing” so we will be engaging with gardening activities as well as taking care of caterpillars and helping them to turn into butterflies.

We hope you all have a lovely half-term break and look forward to seeing you back in school on Tuesday the 1st of March.

December 21

This term’s topic has been ‘Colours and Christmas’ and Tulip class have been enjoying exploring colours through play. We have been using literacy and communication sessions to develop our use of colour language through PECS and communication boards.

We have been able to learn about Diwali and Bonfire Night and done lots of colouring and painting to represent lights and fireworks.

December has meant lots of opportunities for dressing up, decorating the classroom and doing some Christmas cooking. When transitioning to other areas of the school we have been working on independence and understanding of routines. We have enjoyed music and yoga with Claire, especially our Christmas yoga poses. We are looking forward to all the festive fun of the last week of term with lots of music and singing and of course Christmas dinner!

October 21

Tulip class have had fun exploring the new sensory playground. We have really enjoyed being back in the hydrotherapy pool and are working hard on our transitions around the school. We also enjoy cooking sessions on Monday afternoons and doing pre-sensory circuits on Thursdays. Our favourite books this half term have been “Handa’s Surprise” and “Elmer”. We have worked hard on using PECs especially at snack and lunch times.
